Attendance
Attendance that survives contact with a real school morning
A register a class teacher can finish before the first bell, a defaulters list the office can act on, and a leave workflow that keeps the two in agreement.
What the attendance module covers
Daily or period-wise register
Choose per organisation. A primary school marks once a morning; a senior school marking per period gets a register per subject slot.
Scoped to a teacher's own sections
A teacher opens the register and sees the sections they actually teach. There is no class picker listing the whole school.
Defaulters report
Students below the attendance threshold, computed against the policy set for the organisation rather than a hardcoded 75%.
Leave requests
Parents raise a leave request against a child; the school approves or rejects it, and approved leave stops counting as absence.
Attendance settings
Working days, the minimum-attendance threshold and the marking mode are configured per organisation, not per install.
Visible to parents and students
The same record appears in the parent and student portals, so the first time a family sees a shortfall is not the exam hall.
Why the register is the module everything else leans on
Attendance is the only thing in a school ERP that has to be filled in every single day by people who are not administrators. If marking a register takes more than a minute, it gets done in a paper book and typed up on Friday — and every downstream number, from the defaulters list to the eligibility check before an exam, is a week stale.
So the register is scoped tightly. A teacher signing in sees their own sections, in the order their timetable runs, with the previous day's marks visible for reference. The office view is separate: it aggregates across sections, ranks by shortfall, and is the screen a shortage letter gets written from.
Leave closes the loop. Without it, an approved absence and an unapproved one look identical in the totals, and the defaulters list fills up with students whose absence the school already agreed to. Approved leave is excluded from the shortfall calculation, which is what makes the list worth acting on.
Attendance: common questions
Can we mark attendance per period instead of once a day?
Yes. The marking mode is an organisation-level setting, so a school can run a single daily register or a period-wise one tied to the timetable. Period-wise marking produces a separate record per subject slot, which is what makes subject-level shortfall reporting possible.
Can a teacher mark attendance for a class they do not teach?
No. The register a teacher opens is filtered to the sections assigned to them. Marking outside that set is an administrator action, which keeps the audit trail meaningful.
How is the attendance shortfall threshold decided?
It is configured per organisation in attendance settings rather than fixed in the software, because boards and universities differ — and a school running an internal policy stricter than its board's minimum needs the report to reflect its own rule.
Do parents see attendance directly?
Yes. A parent with portal access sees each child's attendance record, including approved leave, without having to request it from the office.
