Why access is granted, never claimed
A parent portal is the one part of a school system where the wrong access decision is a child-safety problem rather than an inconvenience. Self-registration — where anyone with an admission number creates an account — is the common shortcut and the wrong one, because an admission number is printed on every document the child carries.
Access here is granted. The school issues an invitation against a specific guardian and a specific student, and the resulting account can see those children and no others. Guardians are modelled as their own records linked to students, which is what makes a family with three children one login rather than three.
Change requests exist for the same reason. Families genuinely need to correct a misspelled name or a changed phone number, and making them phone the office means the data stays wrong. But letting a parent edit the record directly means the school's own record can change without the school knowing. A proposed change that an administrator approves satisfies both.

How do parents get access to the portal?
The school sends an invitation against a specific guardian and student. There is no self-registration — an admission number is printed on documents the child carries, so it cannot be treated as a credential.
Can one parent see several children?
Yes. Guardians are linked to students, so a parent with more than one child in the school signs in once and switches between them.
Can parents update their own contact details?
They can propose a change, which an administrator approves. Direct editing is deliberately not allowed: the school's record should not change without the school knowing.
Can parents pay fees from the portal?
Yes. Outstanding invoices are payable online through Razorpay, and the payment lands against the same invoice as a counter payment would.
